So I'm about to get Lion installed. In every migration from one machine to a next, I've used the migration assistent to bring my entire home directory over. But since that started on a PPC G4 Mac, and travelled past a couple of machines in the meantime, I imagine there's a lot of cruft - it's 18GB in size! Most of my apps I can set up from scratch, but I'm worried about iTunes.

Have any of you guys migrated iTunes so that it preserves the library (with my ratings, etc preseved) and still recognises your iPod/iPhone devices?

Thanks

Are you sure? That only seems to have the libarary in. I was thinking of copying ~/Music/iTunes, ~/Library/iTunes and the following ~/Library/Preferences/:

ByHost/com.apple.iTunes.*.plist
com.apple.iTunes.*.plist

Library folder, you library XML,and your plist files should cover it
Then reimport the XML and plists once the music path is restored

I'm also pretty sure iTunes has an export/import facility. Not close to pc now to confirm, but that should also do the trick.

I'm also pretty sure iTunes has an export/import facility.

It has an Export Library. My Library is pretty well organised and all my music is well tagged, so even if I lose the library itself, I can import my music again with ease. It's the other stuff (device bindings, etc) that I'm worried about :o

Reauthorize your old computer and authorize your new computer. It is linked to your apple iTunes account, so all your apps should still work
