40 hours 17 mins... That's how long my MBP says it will take to migrate my data from my old laptop...

FML. Seriously doesn't pay to not be concentrating when starting these things... Am I correct in saying it's probably wisest to simply bite the bullet, and let it finish properly, once and for all?

Can you afford to be without your MBP for two days? Then I would bite the bullet.

Ja I can be. Won't be easy - purely because I want to play - but figure I should just wait it out!

Then what are you waiting for?

Go go go!

*Should be done by Saturday lunch time. ;)

Are you migrating via wifi? An ethernet cable, external usb case or even two cups and a piece of string will be faster.

Ja. Wifi. What a chop (I am). But would there be any point attaching a ethernet cable/piece of string now? Won't it simply continue via wifi?

It might switch automatically but dont forget, you can run migration assistant anytime you want.

If you have a new wifi router, it can do 150Mbps/300Mbps, but I suspect you are on 54Mbps.

Ethernet cable will give you at least 100Mbps, so twice the speed.

Just use time machine backup it will be much quicker

As a newbie to the world of Mac - this went straight over my head. I thought you could only time-machine backup a Mac?

Oh well - it matters not. Will see how far things have progressed when I get home this afternoon, otherwise also bought an ethernet cable today - in case I need to go that way...

Just phoned home... still doing the transfer (+1), so at least it hasn't dropped - but still 24 hours to go (-1)...

Oh well. Figure I'll just wait it out then...

This is a great opportunity for a bit of socializing! Don't waste it.

Hello all. Just a quick question:

What are the odds that the migration will overwrite files that are already on my MBP?

Before initiating the migration, I copied many photos over to iPhoto, off my phone. These are new photos, not found on my laptop. I also copied several hundred docs off my flashdisk, that were already on my laptop.

With migration - will those unique photos remain - and what will happen with the "copies" of the already existing documents (i.e) will they duplicate or replace?
