Mike Steyn is currently a Director and part owner of Aspire Solutions, which is a IT consultancy that has been operating since 2004. Previous to this date many of the principles of Aspire Solutions formed the core of a GIS/IT division within VelaVKE, which is a well established South African consulting engineering firm.
As part of Aspire’s senior management team, Mike has worked on many large scale GIS projects. In particular he has been at the helm of assisting the Airports Company of South Africa to establish an enterprise-wide GIS system across all ten airports under their management. This on-going project was initiated in 2003. Other significant projects that he has lead include GIS assistance to SRK Engineers on a number of projects and the establishment of various GIS systems for property developers.
Mike comes from an engineering background and has a BSc in Civil Engineering. This has equipped him well for the problem solving and solution engineering aspect of GIS analysis and GIS management systems. He has experience with setting up ISO accredited and other management systems for organizations such as The Cape Town Partnership and VelaVKE Engineers.
