Mikrotik RB751 Wifi problems

Apologies for going off topic, but I'm planning to buy the 951G next week.
By load balancing, do you mean giving priority to traffic, ie P2P, streaming, gaming, etc?

That is what I would like to do and I have zero experience with that router and networking in general.
Would you advise me against it, because I'm also going on what have been mentioned in posts.

Edit:
Is the wireless on the 951G better?

Basically i use iburst and have 2 modems (1Mb / 2Mb), so if i can balance the traffic between the 2 modems,it wont change my normal surfing speed but i can have (if i use the right download manager) 2 concurrent downloads running 1 file will download at 1Mb and the other at 2Mb. from all my googling it looks as if this issue is quite common on the 751 (at least higher chance a few people have like 10 and only 1 gives an issue) ive seen a few threads where they replaced it with a 951 and no problems

Check this guys load-balancing. Can confirm it works. He has more and other examples of load-balancing.

Thanks will go through it when i have some time - I just get a little confused on what to insert for the IP address is this something the router assigns or do i get it from ISP etc

The wireless on the 751 works fine and there must be a configuration issue or network loop for the watchdog to reboot. Connect one device through wireless and test the speed to one device plugged in to Ethernet. If it still reboots reset to default and try again. If it still reboots send the automatically generated supout to support at mikrotik dot com

I've tried running the router with wifi off and no problems, like i said this seems to be an issue with certain 751's from the threads i found on mikrotik

Question:
What was the reason for setting up the watchdog timer?
To which device is the IP pointing?

I would disable the watchdog first and then see what it does.
Sometimes it also help to lower the TX power as you get less noise then as well.

Try and get Netstumbler running on your laptop and monitor your area.
I have found that some N type devices, not MT, like to jump freq automatically to try and get more speed, but this can cause other devices in the area problems.

Also having 2 WiFi devices with the same SSID in the same area can also cause the devices to get confused, if there is not a management system in place.

The Watchdog doesn't point to a specific IP - so not sure if I should set something there - its on by default - not sure if its safe to turn off? - but some thing must be causing an issue if its shutting down to protect the router I assume
Though i am not much of an expert i have used same SSID on different channels and it works fine, however i thought it might be an issue and turned everything besides the Mikrotik off and tried same story - I think i might have to resort to using the WiFi from the other router and switching off the WifF on the Mikrotik

perhaps reset it to factory default and start over. Make sure you use AES instead of TKIP if you use encryption. TKIP slows everything down

Trying that and a few others
Using WPA2 and Aes only
Setting TX power to 14
Setting HW to 15
I did that before i left home this morning, will test tonight and see

I've had problems in the past with the watchdog rebooting my 750G, and on every occasion it's been because of high cpu usage caused by my inefficient QoS rules.

Log on to it with winbox, right click on the bar at the top to display CPU usage, and then start testing. If your CPU usage goes up to 100% when there's a lot of network activity, but stays low when you disable the mangle and queues, then you know you've found the issue.

Its not always mangle/firewall rules. 1st stop usually is tools->profiler to see which component uses most cpu usage. If it is indeed the firewall, you can start by disabling the firewall rules 1 by 1 or in groups to go faster.

In my case, the router was just fine with my QoS and Firewall/Mangle rules, but when IPsec came into play....well if fell over.

yep usage was jumping to 100%

maybe my playing around with load balancing or trying to block SSH hacking attempts could have left a load of rules casuign high processor usage?

Will check the IpSEC.
But I may give up and reset router to default and start from scratch again.

Tried the reset to default and redid all the settings and the same story as soon as a transfer over WiFi it crashed.

So found a cheap R200 wireless N router and added that to my network - was planning on disabling the WiFi on the Mikrotik but figured i want to keep speed up and the wireless bridge may slow down things so changed the SSID on the Mikrotik router and Bridge - so they still on the same network but they the only 2 devices operating on that SSID - I then transferred files and runs pretty damn fast over WiFi and if needs be wired through the Mikrotik - no crashes - I used to get Random reboots during the day but so far nothing. - Looks like the WiFi on this is a little faulty. I read over the Mikrotik forums and its quite a common problem on the RB751.

Now back to my load balancing attempts

Ive gone through a few of them, they not a good unit imo. Good luck with the load-balancing!
