One of my ubiquity LR APs failed and I temporarily setup an older Mikrotik hap lite device as an AP repeater until I receive a new LR AP replacement.

It works well, however, when our phones switch from the one AP to other we have to either kill wireless and enable it again on our phones, or restart the apps.
It switches over seamlessly though. Our phones also don't moan that there is no internet. Apps would just just load and load until WiFi is killed and enabled again, or when apps are restarted.

Network is set to DHCP. The Mikrotik repeater uses the same ssid. Ubiquity is 5ghz and Mikrotik 2ghz.

Any ideas?

Well clearly it doesn't or else you would not have had issues :p (Just a FYI, there will never be a seamless handover with that setup, your controller does not know about the Mikrotik)

When you say repeater, is it in some sort of repeater mode or just another AP with the same SSID?

Thanks for your input.

Well, it does switch over with no problems when I'm close to the AP. I know this as my WiFi icon suddenly shows full reception.

The Mikrotik doesn't run any configuration other than the repeater config, which was setup using the repeater option under wireless.

For the time being I've resolved the issue by renaming the virtual WLAN point it creates using a different ssid. See image below

My main ssid is 12345678. If the repeater uses the same ssid, I get the issues mentioned in my first post. Using a different ssid, it switches over and the internet works fine without having to restart apps.

Probably easier to stick it out with two SSID's till you get a replacement AP. Always issues with the first setup especially if a switch/router on your network keeps a MAC address table and does not update itself fast enough, so it still sees your phone MAC address mapped to a port that was going to another AP, so once you on the mikrotik that MAC address table still thinks your device traffic should be coming from another port on the switch causing the issues you are experiencing
