Hi guys, we're having a bit of a head-scratcher that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on, if possible.
The line in question is a 200/200 package with WIRUlink on Vumatel fibre (aerial, I think).
We've been using a Ubiquiti USG Pro 4 with Cloud Key, and 5x UniFi AP's for close to a year, with few issues.
The USG's WAN port is plugged into the ONT and dialing PPPOE connection.
Come yesterday (Monday) morning, the connection is almost dead. Getting 0.2/0.2 speed test results, and high/unresponsive pings.
- Swapped the USG Pro 4 for the smaller USG model. Same problem.
- Tried our old Mikrotik hAp. Problem disappeared. 100/100 speed tests (limited by ports) but struggling to handle user load.
- Tried the Mikrotik 3011 that replaced the hAp and preceded the USG. Also no problem. 200/200 speed test results.
- Tried a new HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 running ClearOS 7 (CentOS Linux) dialing PPPOE connection. The problem returns.
- Plugged my laptop (Acer a515 with Realtek GbE) directly into the ONT and dialed the PPPOE connection. The problem remains. Web pages will hardly load and 160ms ping to google.co.za.
I tried various MTU values. Both Mikrotiks report using an MTU value of 1480. Plugging that into the other devices doesn't help.
I tried using TCP Optimizer software on my laptop briefly, didn't get any results.
I put the Mikrotik 3011 back in for now to keep things running, but would like to move to the HP MicroServer.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be happening? Thanks!
