Minecraft

Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens.

I can't help myself, I downloaded it last night to see what the hell I was missing, and ended up playing it for 6 hours, without having a frikking clue as to why I was playing.

Please tell me I am not the only person here who finds this quaint little game so addictive.

MUST play Multiplayer.......nooooooooooooooooooooo

PS. I know I am late on the bus here, heard about it last year but never investigated.
 
I am afraid I am going to get to addicted to it, them I am going to have to pay for it. I don't really want it, its just so damn fun.

Lol, its not quite THAT bad, but I am rather enjoying it.

Understanding the nuances around the mobs and the hard to find ores makes it quite fun. Don't think I'll ever be building the Starship Enterprise, or New York City, but at least I know I CAN if I want to lol.
 
I've been eyeing this game for a while now -- is it really worth it? If I were to try (and possibly buy) it, there are two things I would like to know. Maybe someone can clear this up for me;
- Can I host private servers for just me and friends to mess about in?
- I read that the game mode where you mine for ores (and not just get them all) come with the enemies. Does this get in the way if you just want to build stuff, and also have the mining aspect of the game? (or have I got this wrong?)
 
Is there a way to try it before you buy it? I only saw the "Buy Now!" button on the website after registering.

Edit: Right saw, the free single player 'classic' version at the bottom.

I am in no way an authority, but I have seen plenty of youtube videos of guys hosting private servers, on the website there is a link to the server executable, my guess is you just launch that.
Other question, under options you can change the difficulty to Peaceful, then there are no mobs to irritate you if you want to build the Empire State Building.
 
I just hate it when searching for natural caves to do my mining in, and then die suddenly - not knowing how the hell to get back to my cave xD

Making it peacefull wont it be too boring then ?

well then you wont be able to acquire items like string and sulphur...
but if you just want to mine then its fine...
like ive dug a **** off big hole, basically building the big hole of kimberly
 
I want to try my hand at the rails and minecarts...yarrrrrrrrr
 
I'm afraid of Minecraft... I haven't bought or even played it yet but I'm 100% sure that as soon as I do I will turn into a hermit and fail my degree because I just wanted to play for 5 more minutes, 4 hours ago!
 
Started last night. Loving it. I can see an addiction developing already!

Will practice for a week and then join a clan on a multi-player server. Where to go to locally? WebAfrica?
 
Wow I love this game. I bought it in November last year and I still play it every day. This game is defiantly worth your money.
I play on the Crafthub server, it's not South African server but it’s a great community and my ping is avg 300ms. It's not laggy which is nice.
