Hi

I'm considering using one of these devices to broadcast from my desktop to my Hi-Fi.

Anybody played with these devices?

Why do you need a wireless solution? Is your hi-fi far away from your PC. Otherwise I would just use the aux input on your hifi. A friend has used one of these before, worked decently. Seem to remember that he had some range issues though. Typically these devices dont broadcast very far so that they dont interfere with actual radio stations

they are only effective within 3m or less.
the fm spectrum in urban centres is pretty full at the moment, so you can get a lot of interference from other stations.
if you're not moving around as you would in a car, there's less frequency spill and so you shouldn't need to retune it.
you want something where you can fine tune the frequency - preset stations aren't great.

all nokia nseries devices come with a built-in fm transmitter and afaik some samsung models too.
if you're going to stick a mini-jack external fm transmitter into the the music player, and you're broadcasting to a hifi, i don't really see how this is preferable to using mini-jack to stereo rca cable?

I went a different way - since I wanted the wifi for my xbox I got a Airport Express which also lets me stream music wirelessly to it.

The Hi-Fi and Desktop live at opposite ends of the house, and I was looking for a wireless solution to bridge the gap. It looks likes the range on these things is a little small for that application.

Still, It's going to be a fun little toy to play with.

I guess I'll just have to do this the old fashioned ;-) way plugging the hi-fi into the laptop and accessing the data using my wireless network.
