Where can one buy a cheap mini-itx chassis?
100W PSU would be more than sufficient, fanless even better.

You might want to try Rectron, they are distributors of Gigabyte hardware and I know gigabyte also produces quite a variety of Mini-ITX products - few examples

If you select "Where to Buy" and do a search in SA for "Distributors" you will find Rectron on the list.

Ya thing is when you start spending R1000+ on a chassis, without a PSU nogal ... might as well look at a Mac Mini!

Well easy - get yourself a CFI-A9849 @ R500+ under R700 depending on store .

It has two hotswap bays and comes with a 220w psu.

So... what did you get. I suspect that I'll need to build an email and ftp server for very light use some time soon, and I think an Atom chip will cope. R 700 for a chassis is insane, the board with chip is less than that. If I can get away around R 1500 for the lot I'll be smiling.

Edit: It's either the Atom setup, or a second hand power sapping P3 with 3x18GB scsi drives. I should talk to Eskom, tell them I'll buy a second hand P3 and crush it, if they buy me an Atom. It'll save them about 975W. <-- I'm kidding, that's not accurate.

Nothing.

Low power systems seems like a rip-off. I was interested in a even lower powered ARM solution but after adding up all the individual components I went "fsck it!".

Same here. I eventually bought an old P4 box for R500 and installed Windows Home Server V1 on it. Works perfectly. I got this case from evetech: http://www.isonic.co.za/cases_CHASSIS_ONLY.htm for R300. Excellent for the price.
