Yes, those little portable cases, with DVD RW drives. I don't want to buy a big desktop (not portable), and laptops are too expensive relative to their power. I saw one of these, and I would like more info.
How powerful can they be? I'm thinking duel, 4+ gb ram atleast, dvd RW, USB slots, headphone slot.

My old work laptop is crashing when I am editing music. I have a lot of moving parts in my songs firing at the same time. It crashes because it uses up all the ram (2gb), and I'm not working with incredibly complex stuff yet. I want to be able to work with more much more than I am now. I cannot have a pc stifle my creativity and ability like this =\ I will spend what I have to.

Suggestions?

ED::How much are they? value for money comparative to laptops?
Who sells them?

Small cases = small PSUs (+/-150W) only capable of powering low-spec custom mainboards both of which are usually impossible to source when they fail.

Rather a normal case with a handle on the top if portability is an issue.

Sounds like you're looking for something that doesn't exist.

Hmm, there is one at my workplace, and I don't quite remember the specs, but I do remember I was impressed with the specs for the size. The thing is tiny. The DVD slot was sideways. They had it hooked up to a screen the size of a cars windshield. I will ask them about it monday. It is the only one I have ever seen, and I had never even heard about them before. I am not so sure however, that I would be able to easily go out and buy one like a company does. The suppliers like companies, because companies spend huge amounts of money. They get special treatment.

From what I am reading now though, for sound editing, especially complex sound editing, It is preferable for quad core, 4-8gb ram, 500gb HD, and a good sound card. I don't want to buy a large desktop because I am saving up to Travel and work in Europe when I get enough cash together. I'm not going to take a desktop with me. If I was to buy a laptop with those kinda specs, that would push back my savings quite heavily.

The laptop I just looked at is a gaming pc, which means it has the specs I want, but that's like 22k. If I was going to spend that amount of cash, I'd also want to buy more virtual instruments and synths to use in the my editing softare to make the purchase worth while. They aren't cheap either, they are sold in foreign currencies for people who earn foreign currencies. =/

I will have to think on it, and speak to the peeps at work on monday. Thx for the help though.

I think the biggest conflicting requirements are high-spec, portable and cheap. I'm not aware of anything that matches all three criteria: usually you have to sacrifice on one of them. For instance you could get a Mac Mini which is portable and popular among creative types but at the price you may as well get a better spec notebook. But a notebook with those kind of specs is going to cost you more than an equivalent desktop but then you lose portability.
