Good news for people spending over R1,800 on electricity

Many South African households who spend around R1,800 or more on electricity can slash their bills by renting an entry-level solar power system.

For many years, the main appeal to buying a solar power system in South Africa was that it could protect households and businesses from load-shedding.

Wait until the ANC have added their "tied to grid" extortion fee to the mix before deciding what is cheap, there will definitely be ANC push back and penalties for using both solar and the grid.

Benedict will blame the DA for giving the ANC that idea.

Yea starting point is rental price

Divide by the cost per unit
And as long as the system can exceed that unit count to break even

Yes then savings can be made , the problem is often packages aren't configured for optimum balance

ie the batteries are often too small
Saving units via solar only happens in 1 of two ways

1 you shift enough load to fully utilise the solar not to have idle panels - very hard to do actually

2 have enough battery to catch all excess solar to be able to run the load that could not be timeshifted at night+ normal after hours load

Any system with a single 5kw battery should make your red flag senses tingle

First trial time shifting load subtract usage during the day from the break even units /day what's left is the .minimum battery kWh you need for break even extra for savings

Most calculate possible savings on theoretical max based on Sun hours and array power

Without the right battery bank size getting full utilisation is all but impossible

The higher the daily production claim the bigger the battery bank needs to be

Anything under 15kwh bank take claims with salt in bulk

Do the tests/math yourself

16% return on my install. Will probably double that IF i get more batteries.
Break even point was 6 years. Half that now with their new rip off.
Aaah the joy of not even knowing about the power failures.
