I ordered an ADSL line 2 days ago and was wondering why the call operator was so concerned that I had a computer with the right specs.

Why do I need a PC with a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM for ADSL if I'm going to be using a Billion 1502 4-port router/modem?
Even the IPCop machine (P133 with 40MB of RAM) I run will saturate a 1Mbps ADSL connection so what's up with this minimum spec crap? Are the USB ADSL modems like "WinModems" and require a decent CPU for the modulation and demodulation?

Oh and their PCQualify.exe app doesn't work too well on Linux. :p

01. don't touch the USB ADSL modems - the are crap.
02. telkom is as always talking crap.
03. if ever in doubt what telkom says, refer to rule 02.

You need at least a X2 4400+, it will make the internet go faster :-)

Ok, I had the feeling that was the case.

Now they must just stop phoning me and offering me these 150 free Internet hours packages that cost more than the Infinite call option does.

What about minimum specs for adsl speed (since when is 192Kb/s 'broadband'??)

If your considering getting a new pc i would recomend at least:
P4-3.0Ghz Dual core (930)
1gb RAM DDR2-667
200gb SATA Hard Drive

for starters... :)
