Minimum SOC

Hi Folks.

So I have been playing around with the settings on my new system. The inverter has a cut off SOC threshold. What would be a safe minimum SOC threshold. I don't want to have to jumpstart my batteries.

I have 2x dyness 4.8kwh batteries.

10% is the minimum, technically anything above 0% but to be safe 10%

Im getting all sorts of numbers from others. some say 15% and others 25%... these seem to high to me. IS 10% the consensus folks?

10% is what the specs say.

You asked what the minimum is :-), for better battery life span the higher the better.
 
Just to be certain - are you wanting to run your batteries down to 10 and then turn off the inverter OR are you wanting to run your batteries down the 10% then use the grid?
 
yup. 4.5 KwP system with 5Kw Deye inverter and 2 4.8 Dyness batteries.
Then I understand there could be a reason why you would want to get the most out of your battery. There is actually no right and wrong answer, for an example lowering it to 10% can give you that leeway of making it to your solar time without having to dip into Eskom for charging.

It's not a rule that because they have a 90% DoD then it must be 10%,depending on your own circumstances you might put it at 20%.

only get to 10% in a load shedding scenario. Im messing with grid active settings at this point Im sticking to 50% when grid is live.
 
You asked what the minimum is :), for better battery life span the higher the better.

As an example, our PylonTech's are rated for 5% minimum SOC but I have them set to 20% minimum SOC hoping to get more life out of them. Well, my BIL will hopefully get more life out of them.

maybe my coffee hasn't kicked in but i was confused by OPs statement
ok. So the system is set to shutdown at 10% but under normal circumstances it will only go down to 50% before it starts using the grid. The 10% is only going to happen during load shedding
 
Mine are set to 70% for when the power is iffy and the weather is cloudy - don't want to be caught with my pants down.
For clear days (like all of winter in JHB) I set it to 40%. Thats a good balance on "savings" vs capacity for solar to recharge and some buffer for sudden loadshedding or sudden power outages.

Been doing that system for about 2 years now and never had an issue.
