Hi guys,

Looking for some recommendations on what specs to choose for a virtual server. Currently I am hosting 3 Wordpress/woocommerce based websites - each on their own shared hosting plan with Axxess. 2 of them are on Axxesses “wordpress” hosting options, and they run well. The one site is on standard Linux shared hosting, with only 1Gb of physical memory/ram. This site seems to constantly run into memory limits, especially when working in the Wordpress dashboard, or trying to access the woocommerce store using the iOS app.

I want to now move all three sites onto a dedicated VPS server - and this server will also be used to host an mqtt server for a small meshtastic project.

What would the minimum and recommended hardware requirements be? I was thinking 2 core processeor and 4gb ram should be more than sufficient?

Remember you will need to manage MySQL + backups, install nginx and configure php-fpm per host, as well as some server hardening/protection like fail2ban.

Doable and really simple, but what issue are you actually having with the current setup?
If the one site is causing issues, why not scale it up?

For your MQTT server you could get away with a free Oracle Cloud VM

For a we server you want as much RAM as you can afford as it holds your concurrent connections. You're trying to eliminate swapping.

No particular's issues with tje current set up - other than the one site that is hitting memory limits. This is more about streamlining and optimising on costs.

Currently im paying three seperate monthly hosting accounts of around R179.00 each (so just shy of R600.00 for shared hosting), and then I still haven’t solved my mqtt server conundrum - plus I don’t particularly want to host the mqtt on any sort of free service (it’s used for tracking some sensitive data, and I am a firm believer that if a service is free, you are the product).

For R525.00 a month (and only R345.00 for the first three month) on axxesses current promo, I can get a 2vcpu server, with 4gb ram - which I think should be sufficient to run all my current websites better than the current shared hosting and solves my mqtt server problem as well.

I'd rather move to domains or absolute hosting. On Domains you can get 2vcpu core, 4GB RAM, 100GB storage and ADD another 2GB ram for a total of R519 per month.

Take a look at our Ryzen VPS Servers or AMD Boxed Deals which run on EPYC Turin hosts
