Minister of communications Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri yesterday expressed her “deep regret” for her decision not to consider digital migration as early as 1996, when SABC's satellite pay-TV Astrasat venture, based on analogue, was introduced.
Dont worry, go get yourself another medal/accolade.

“They knew something we didn't,” she said

NEWSFLASH IVY, they still do!
The minister said she opted for analogue technology as she thought it would be more affordable for South Africans, but says the decision was erroneous as two years later the world had moved to a digital platform in satellite broadcasting.
Another 'in your face' example of how fast the rest of the world is moving ahead on all technology fronts while we languish in the past because of your (and your departments) incompitance.
Proceed past Go, collect 200 Telkom shares or medal of choice. sarc.
“As government, we have an obligation to ensure services reach every citizen of this country at an even more affordable rate,” she added.
REALLY!!!!! Is it election year???
Pray tell why we have arguably the highest telecoms costs in the world with abysmal penetration. Last time I checked Telkom lines were being disconnected ruthlessly due to non payment which is directly related to affordability.

African ICT Awards!

Hi

Its really amuzing seeing such baffoons receive accolades for their work in the ICT sector. If these individuals were forced to work in the US, I doubt very much they would manage to secure a job as a janitor in an ICT company.

Ivy is a complete moron. She is an embarresment to this nation. End this madness!

Its not that they knew something Ivy didn't.

Its that they have grey matter instead of grey hair.

Once again it simply demonstrates the absolute idiot that is under all that grey hair.

Matsepe-Casaburri said the signs were there at the time that the world was moving into a new technology platform when Malaysian broadcasting experts advised her against analogue technology.

“Digital migration has been mooted as early as the late 1990s in SA. Our white paper on broadcasting policy of 1998 had already recognised the evolution of technologies in the information and communications technology sector.”
-
“As government, we have an obligation to ensure services reach every citizen of this country at an even more affordable rate,” she added.

The minister praised the work done by the digital migration working group, noting: “The report will act as a base for migrating our broadcasting systems from analogue to digital technologies.”

10 years of this idiot and this idiocy. Do we have a president, do we have a government? NO, we seem to have a bunch of useless clueless idiots who have no interest in ACCOUNTABILITY or performance.

erroneous:
1. containing error; mistaken; incorrect; wrong: an erroneous answer.
2. straying from what is moral, decent, proper, etc.

Why not just say WRONG, oh but it was erroneous: ja, NO MORALS.

They knew something we didn't,” she said

erm yes you are quite right there Ivy, THEY KNOW HOW TO DO THEIR JOB and you freaking well DON'T !!!!

To be fair, unlike in Far Eastern and European countries, technology suppliers don't throw cheap, new technology at South Africa.

I mean look at digital theater systems at the moment. Ster Kinekor and Nu Metro can't afford to upgrade to Hollywood quality digital theater systems. They are installing digital projectors, but these will be used for non-Hollywood and independent films.

Ivy: "So should we go digital, or should we go analogue?"
Malaysian broadcasting experts : "Go Digital Ivy, It's the future of communication, we're experts we know."

Ivy: "Okay, does anyone think we should go analogue?"
Voices in Ivy's Head : "Go analogue ivvyyy, they know something we don't!"

Point being, who advised her to go analogue?

Will we ever know the identity of any one such person? - not likely since the Grim Poisonous Ivyness Creeper has not named and shamed this advisor.

More importantly, is it relevant to know who gave Ivy bad advice? - I think not - ultimately Ivy made the decision and Ivy must accept responsibility for her own decisions in this life and hopefully the next as well - I'm hoping it's soul-searingly hot where Ivy is headed for all eternity!!!

And we've STILL got MONO tv.

Reminds me of the Right Honourable Korean experts (or any one of the others) that have come here and in 5 mins identified the problem and the solution.

What is this useless woman going to say in ANOTHER 10 years. Oh duh, experts told us but we knew best.

Spew

or something like: erm we knew they knew something, but we chose not to know, cause knowing something would require us to have done some work and Telkom's shares to take a dip, and I needed a new car...

Ivy's my hero. She gets to sit around oblivious all day playing Evil Genius. I'm sure she banks buckloads for doing this.

However, life for Ivy can be a bit of a drag. Like when the president rudely wakes her up to tell her she is his chosen candidate. And when protocol demands that she attend her own inaugeration (she was in the car going in another direction). Maybe she didn't feel too comfortable about having to swear to uphold the Constitution.

Then of course there are those moments when there's a hiccup in the Evil Genius software, and she ends up passing on unconstitutionally-sound bill to the prez. And then there's that one time she outlawed pizza delivery in the country. ICASA thankfully chose not to pursue Debonaires for breaking the law.

But you know, these things happen. Other than that, life's pretty good for Ivy!

Hey! Evil Genius is a fun game, and requires far more skill and dedication than Ivy could produce... ;)

Outlawed pizza delivery? It's sad that I can't tell if you're joking...

LOL, so Ivy banned Mr Delivery from delivering Debonaires Pizzas? - I need a good bedtime story with lots of intrigue and twisted herrings and such...:D

Please elaborate - I don't know about this particular Ivy incident.

It was an unintended consequence of one of the postal sector laws if I recall correctly. I think MaD has a link or two about it.

Something to do with the government regulating delivery of parcels over 1kg or something. They forgot that their law by default included pizza deliveries.
