Hi

I am getting annoyed with my thinning hair on my crown. I am now 32 and since I am 16 people have told me I'll be bald very soon. At least it is not getting worse, but it's not getting better either. For 3 years I am using Nisim shampoo and extract but I don't really see any results. It might have stopped or slowed down the thinning process but doesn't reverse it.

So I am thinking of starting to use Minoxidil 5%, Regaine or similar. Does anyone have experience with it? Where would I get it in SA? Apparently they only sell the 2% one.

Funny enough one common side effect of Regaine is hair loss, anyone experienced that? I really don't want to make it worse.

I know many of you will tell me now to get bald proudly, but I don't want to. I want my hair and I want it now ;-)

Hey

Ive been using it for last month or so, but it takes about 3 months to start showing effect. I used it last year for a bit and seemed like it worked.....

It does tend to increase hair loss initially, basically the thin hair falls out a bit before thicker ones grow in. In theory :)

Dischem sells minoxidil that they mix themselves, both 5% and 2%. Its cheaper than regaine and afaik exactly the same. Basicly 5% mixed in alcohol. I coudnt find regaine though, found some last year but havent seen any since.

I am so extremely worried that my hair could start falling out, now it's just thin, but what if it starts shedding... I'm gonna freak

I think you will be wasting a lot of money for little noticeable benefit. If any of those products would work reliably, there would be no Bruce-Willis-type guys around. Cut short and accept the fact that some guys (I am one of those) lack the hair-growth of a chewbacca ;-)

I am not expecting miracles anyway, but if I can keep my hair for as long as possible I'll be happy. Others spend it on booze, I spend it on beauty... hahaha

And how many of those 16 peps are hair professionals?

I was told when I was a teenager I would be bald in my 20's, I'm now 36 and I just cannot go bald (actually I would love to be bald). Anyway, I do have thin hair and my wife (who is a hair stylist) gave me a product to try. Its pills and shampoo, ended up being too much of a ballache to use it. All it does is give the hair more volume. Also be weary of guys that claim hair shampoo saved the day as 99% of them would have gotten hair plugs.

If you are really concerned then speak to a hair clinic.

Be a man and go bald with dignity. Like prince William.

Shave your head...that is what I did.

Those "medications" don't work.

If you are loaded ask Jacques Kallis what he did. ;)

Would love to know

Me too.

I guess I'll keep on using what I'm using and additionally give the minoxidil a chance. I want to look like the guy that ponder posted, rofl

donza, I went to hairoptions in Somerset, that's where I get my shampoo and stuff. I am not a big believer in laser treatment or whatever it is, that's the part I left out. For that money they charge I can buy my own laser comb. Perhaps I should?

Anyhow, I'll get DHT blockers as well. If all that doesn't show any results in let say 12 months from now, I'll accept this stupid thing called ageing.

Spend your money on something else rather and don't fight it. You won't be able to make much of a change. Just shave it off and go bulletheaded like the rest of us. :p

I am not there yet, give me another year or so. I am still in denial ;-)

OK, then you have to go the gradual route. You start with a number 4 buzz with the clippers.
Six months later you go down to no. 3. etc.
Until you feel man enough to go metal to scalp with a razor! :D
