The above is an example of why I am leaving South Africa. It’s not down to ADSL. I am just sick and tired of running uphill all the time to get simple things done.

A mate came out from the UK on holiday. He wanted to go for a steam train ride. To book 4 tickets on the train I had to deposit the money in their bank, fax the deposit slip to them, and phone to confirm. Like my friend said, it’s the wrong way around. We are the customers, they are supposed to make life easier for us.

It took the best part of 45 minutes running around and queuing to book a train ride.

The list is endless of simple things complicated. Game Over.

yes its me and i get 10Mbps over adsl. i can live in daylight hours again!!!

How do you get 10Mbps over your adsl when the maximum speed is 8Mbps? Perhaps you mean your modem is connected to your pc at 10Mbps.

I'm confused - I thought Telkom ADSL was 512kbps max speed?

Must be connected to the router at 10mbps, my pc tells me my adsl is connected at 100mbps.

Welcome back Peapod!

I'm thrilled to hear that you finally have your ADSL installed. It doesn't surprise me that you had to install it yourself. I had the same problem with one of their techies - he told me that they were sent out with NO technical training. I actually felt sorry for the guy. What he battled to do in over an hour, I could have done in 10 mins.

Anyway, I really hope your wait is worthwhile.

Everyones got a sad story about Telkom... seems to be a common denominator in SA.

They 'forgot' my splitter on installation and said I would also get a second filter when they came by again.

Guess what...

Still waiting.
