mirc dont know i got adsl lol

hiya all

my mirc doesnt seem to know i got adsl lol
my downlaod speeds on mirc are extremly slowwwwwww
and its not picking up my local host either
i think its got something to do with my port forwarding and ive tried to set that up but it doesnt seem to make a diff even if i follow what it says on portforward.com , iam using a zyxel IAD P2602

any suggestions please?
 
If you're connecting to a overseas server it's completely normal unless you have a unshaped account. Most all ADSL accounts are shaped, meaning non standard ports(meaning almost anything accept http) gets low priority and generally have nonexistent performance. You'll notice that P2P has the same "problem".

Your only solution is to either live with it or buy unshaped accounts (which are insanely expensive).

EDIT: As for your port forwarding issues, perhaps someone who knows your router can help, I know how port forwarding works in general but if portforward.com couldn't help I doubt I could...

Also take into account the upload speed of the other host, and number of connections. Dont bother with port forwarding unless you plan on running a DCC server to accept connections without being connected to an IRC server.
 
No, you still have to open a DCC port range when sending/receiving files through DCC over IRC. The default port range that IRC uses is 1024 - 5000 so you can open this entire range, or simply 2 to 4 ports in this range. When you try to send someone a file, your client will open up the first available port in this range, notify the other client of your ip address and port, and allow him to connect to your ip on this port and receive the file. The IRC server has nothing to do with the sending/receiving of files, hence the name DCC (Direct Client Connection).
 
to me its strange because iam with openweb and when on irc my speed goes at like 3kbps which is annoying.

as far as i know telkom put that V3.40(AUJ.0)b4 as the firmware version :confused:

Port forward on the Zyxel P2602

In order to set port fowarding there are 2 parts to configure: 1) port foreward and 2 ) Firewall
1) Port Foward: Network/ NAT/ Port Fowarding/ -> select the default server as the PC to be used, or specify the service and destination IP for that particular service.
2) Firewall: Security / Firewall / rules-> packet direction: Wan to LAN
Click on "Add". On bottom of rules page in service section, remove "any TCP" and remove "Any UDP". Select ports from the left "available services" or "edit customized services"
Let me know if this solves your problem.

V3.40(AUJ.0)b4 | 06/21/2007 is the firmware that was developed for Telkom SA. The other international firmware will not be ideal, because it is older and the defaults are incorrect. One example of the defaults are the tone detection levels and ring frequency and cadence. The port forwarding works on V3.40(AUJ.0)b4 | 06/21/2007, so you should not need otherfirmware for this. New firmware will be released at some stage which has some changes to defaults, for example the access digit for a PSTN call will change from 0 to Recall.

It's not that (m)IRC isn't realizing you have ADSL. It doesn't work like that.

Set local host to be resolved by the server instead of locally. it's in the options.

IRC DCC is single peer client<->client p2p. There's nothing restricting the speeds and the only things that could affect it that I can think of are:
* port prioritization from your ISP - by the sounds of things you're on IS
* the UPLOAD speed of the person you're downloading from. If you're getting a file from another ZA DSL'er don't expect your download rate to exceed 40kB/s.
Try the following commands though which may help quite substantially:
/fsend on
/pdcc on
