I have the NX300.

I love the size, very compact and easy to carry around.

Image quality is fantastic. The Wi-Fi functionality is great!

For normal every day family use the camera is fine. I do have gripes with shooting action shots - not the best camera for that.

Being a mirrorless Samsung product, I can say that your lens options are limited at this time. Also, the Samsung lenses are very expensive.

I have the NX1100. Takes great pics and is pretty noob friendly. It is also not so great for action shots as Visser said about the NX300, but otherwise it has served us well.

Spent a lot of time at the last photo expo trying out the Samsung cameras including test shots with the NX300. This does not really qualify as proper user experience but I was impressed by the products.

The lens lineup is limited but they seem to have taken care to cover the focal lengths that people will typically want so you should be OK if you do not have unusual needs.

I did not directly compare the lens prices with other brands but they did seem in keeping with the optical quality. Once again this was the impression gained from trying them out at the show.

If you are looking for similar competing products then also consider the Fuji X-A1 and X-M1.

Fujifilm X-T1, one of the best things I've ever bought.

I think we need a mirrorless camera thread.

And this is not it?

Been looking at getting one of these, but I never get to it.

I'm happy for it to be, it was the most recent thread regarding mirrorless.

The X-T1 so good that you can literally walk in and buy it without even testing it.

I should really get to uploading some pics to Flickr. In addition to the kit lens, I've now got the XF35 1.4 and XF60 2.4 macro. The picture quality is phenomenal. All in JPEG, all transferred via wifi to my iPhone/iPad, etc. The wireless app for Mac (and Windows) also works well.

The lenses are as good if not better than top Canon and Nikon lenses, for up to half the price. Everything is metal.

I bought the Canon EOS-M a while back and I'm still really enjoying it - mostly for it's compact nature though. Image quality is great - AF might be a little slow at times but I've found it depends a lot on the lens attached. It's definitely my go to travel camera these days.

With Sony no longer being featured in S.A. your 2 choices on mirrorless are really only Samsung and Fuji otherwise i would have suggested the Sony Alpha 6000 or the full frame A7 series if your pocket stretched that way.

While i dont know about the available local selection of lenses for either Samsung or Fuji, B&H lists a total of 54 compatible lenses for both the Fujifilm Xmount as well as the Samsung NX mount, so your options are not limited on either.

If you are into pixel count it seems that Samsung has the edge over the Fuji.

If you want a viewfinder then you are out of luck on the NX300 , rather go for the Samsung NX1, NX20, NX30 or Fujifilm X-1T

If you want continuous shooting frames per second, the X-1T -(8.0) NX300 (8.6) NX20 (8.0) NX30 (9.0) NX1 (15)

Over R10 000 Fuji X-1T and Samsung NX1

Looking at cost, features and "bang for your bucks" - Samsung NX30

X-T1.

The Samsungs feel like toys, but I'm sure they must be at least half the price of the Fujifilm.

Fujifilm has been making cameras and lenses for what, over half a century? In no way would an enthusiast ever buy Samsung.

 Sure, while Samsung have only made a few shoddy TV's and a not very successful range of phones.

Well flat screen TVs and smartphones are an advent of the 21st century. Samsung makes all consumer electronics, as well as home electronics, commercial, etc.

Fujifilm makes cameras and lenses. And film. And what ever other imaging goods. They specialise in optics. For over 50 years.

You held an X-T1?

The Samsungs I held at Orms (full range on display) are all cheap and nasty. It's what I've come to expect from the brand.

Samsung go back to the days of film on POS cameras as well, so they have been in the camera game for many years, they aren't new to the scene.

Held, it played around with it when i was buying a mirrorless, but didnt like it, the features and specs didnt appeal to me, Megapixels were lower than my DSLR, i didnt want a mirrorless less than 20, and with a raw image ISO range of 200 minimum, plus no pop up flash for quick easy evening or function, braai, party related photo's.

My requirements always found the way back to the Sony A6000 with Samsung as 2nd choice in APS-C size sensors.
Eventually i got very lucky price wise on a full frame Sony mirrorless , so never went with Samsung.

Very nice, Sonys are great.

So what's the typical zoom? Not including that monstrosity of yours. :D

Zoom? That would depend on the lens attached, same as any dslr.

The 22mm EF-M has a zoom of 1x - it's a fixed focal length lens (iow a prime), the 18-55 EF-M kit lens has a zoom of 3.05x, the 55-200 EF-M has a zoom of 3.6x, the 11-22mm EF-M has a zoom of 2x. Not sure offhand what other EF-M lenses there are.

The canon lens with the highest zoom I can think of off the top of my head is the 28-300mm EF - 10.7x.

Zoom = maximum focal length divided by the minimum focal length.

EDIT: Probably should have led with that last tidbit. :o

Not really anything that could match the 33x of my compact in a small size?
