Peapod, with a speech like that you can be my general any day. We must fight the oppressor. All we need now is a plan of action. How do we go about bringing this to the attention of the people who can make a difference?
I have a plan.
We should draft an e-mail with all the things we want. It should be a group effort, involving all the people here. It should include the things we find wrong about ADSL, as well as general things we find wrong about telecommunications at large. Things like VOIP and LCR being illegal. The delays in appointing a SNO. Etc. It should be a long and detailed list. It should be very comprehensive.
After the list is compiled, it should be edited by a team of two or three community-appointed editors to make sure we get the right message across without seeming like petulant teenagers.
Every single one of us, including everyone we know, should take a copy of the e-mail and send it to the following people:
Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, Minister of Communications
Dene Smuts, DA Spokesperson for Communications (
[email protected])
Mandla Langa, Chairperson of ICASA
Sizwe Nxasana, Telkom Chief Executive Officer
Every single editor of every single newspaper and technology magazine in the country.
Feel free to add to the list. We'll also need e-mail address for all the above people and we need to know which newspapers/magazines to contact and who the editors are.
I suggest we resend the e-mail every month until we get a favourable response.
It is very important that we commit to this endeavour en masse. If not, there's no point. We need to send these people thousands of e-mails. We need to bring their mail servers down. We need to slow down the Telkom infrastructure to such an extent that they will do anything to prevent us from doing another mailshot.
