Cape Town - Pluto, a 7-and-a-half-year-old Boxer dog who went missing while his owner was surfing in Granger Bay, Cape Town, was reportedly stolen and sold for R50.

His bereft owner, Robert Abel, told News24 on Sunday that he left his "sweet-natured" pet on the beach on Friday afternoon while he hit the waves - something he often did, as Pluto was well-known in the area. "Everyone loves the dog...he is legendary at most of the surfing beaches of the Atlantic seaboard."

When Abel came out the water, he saw that Pluto was gone.

He began looking for him and approached a couple on the beach to see if they had witnessed Pluto's disappearance.

 Hope he finds his baby

Yeah, a few guys do this, and frankly I question it every time. Quite a number are ok with waiting, but some ive seen are quite antsy and are constantly up and down on the beach.

Nice for the dogs, but irresponsible knowing that dogs are targeted these days for various reasons.

quite a coincidence

a friend of mine was approached by someone outside pick n pay sea point by someone wanting to sell a dog (a different dog).
the guy told her that he was waiting for some nigerians from hout bay to come collect the dog.

given the prospect, she then paid him (R100) for the dog to avoid it landing up in a squatter camp.
the dog went to a temporary home and is now in a permanent home.
fortunately, my friend took it to a local vet for a check up etc and this dog can easily be recovered if need be.

sound like the beginning of a scam

will contact ward councillor on this

Typically irresponsible dog owner leaving his dog unsupervised to crap all over the beach and annoy other beach goers.

This is exactly why we need to ban dogs on public beaches.

Geez, who just leaves their dog to roam by itself while you surf? That's just irresponsible. What did he think would happen?

Well he did leave him there for years unattended, so nothing?

If you saw the pieces of trash walking up and down Green Point and Sea Point you wouldn't leave anything of value on the beach while you surf, especially your beloved dog.
