Mankind seems to have found something for which we have been turning over rocks and scouring grottos from here to Cairo and then some. We have finally found Granny Ida or whatever we called her back in antiquity. In fact the remnants of the suspected missing link we’ve unearthed dates so far back, antiquity doesn’t even cut it as a descriptive term. The Lemur-like creature was unveiled at the American Museum of Natural History in New York earlier today and is hailed by some (maybe a little prematurely or late depending on where you stand) as the missing link between modern primates and our more distant relatives.
What is interesting about the 47 million year old Granny Ida is that we can even see her hairdo! Yes, it remained imprinted in the fossilized remnants with traces of her last meal with the girlfriends even visible. Doubt it was tea and biscuits, but who knows what missing links got up to 47 million years ago. With all the hype around Granny Ida one would suspect this to be new news, right? Well you would unfortunately be wrong. She has been kept in a private collection since the 80’s when she was first discovered in Darmstadt, Germany. I didn’t even know there were private collections of old fossils like these, especially ones that could potentially be the missing link! Many married men around the world would possibly consider themselves the collectors of old fossils in the form of mothers in law but alas that doesn’t count guys.
I don’t know about you, but I feel betrayed as a primate. How many documentaries have we not slaved through ranting on and on about evolution and how we still need to find the missing link, when some nincompoop with a stash of fossils was laughing off his rear end staring at our best candidate (if the sources are to be believed) for a missing link. It is disgusting and I think we should take our clubs or large animal bones (whatever is handy) and at least beat him till he bleeds or use our evolved incisors to at least inflict a modicum of pain. We should send a troop of 6 adult male humans to perform this rectifying act, and put our universe in balance again. How dare somebody keep Granny Ida locked away like this, as if she was some kind of animal!
