Why missing Titanic sub's R800 gaming controller is not that strange

While critics of the company behind a missing submersible that regularly dives to the Titanic shipwreck have called out its use of an affordable off-the-shelf game controller, several military vehicles use similar gamepads.

The disappearance of OceanGates Expedition's Titan submersible and its five crewmembers and tourists shortly after they set off on their journey to the famous ship's resting place on Sunday has made headlines around the world.
 
Actually not a bad decision to use it. Great little controller for that machine!

Not that it had anything to do with the disappearance of the vessel.
 
It isn't. The US, for instance, has installed Xbox controllers in some of warships to control optic-systems.

Xbox controllers are so expensive these days, seems only taxpayer money could carry that expense.
 
I actually have the wired version of that controller
Its not great, but it does its thing. I'd call it 'functional.'

My XBox controller is superior. WAY superior.

Probably should have used the calibration tool first in Windows
Those cheap controllers are known to drift
These Okes aren't missing, they're just lost off the shore near Texas
 
I know of at least one scenario where a military grade controller was changed for an xbox controller. The ease of use / muscle memory / cost advantages are more important than the military requirements.
