Biggest mistakes electric car drivers make

Buying a new electric vehicle (EV) and topping up the battery as much as possible at a public charger are among the mistakes first-time EV adopters make.

While EV sales have increased exponentially in South Africa in recent years, the community of fully-electric vehicle drivers is still relatively small.

If I buy a R600k+ EV, I don't want stories with how it needs to be charged. It needs to manage itself electronically.

They already manage themselves, but they can't read minds and are obviously going to assume you want max range etc. until programmed or managed otherwise. Allowing the car to recognise patterns and adapt dynamically sounds like it should be a cakewalk and I think some probably already do that, but I wouldn't want that even if it's an option.

These days there's quite literally "an app for that".

Surely the little effort it takes to adapt charging habits for your own use cases and outliers is nothing to moan about given all the potential charging flexibility and potential savings you get vs. ICE vehicles. The only real problem with EV battery management so far has been the lack of an ISO industry standard to report detailed battery history for 2nd hand buyers. I think that will undoubtedly happen.

EDIT:
Looks like there are at least some ideas in the pipeline. I wouldn't want a 2nd hand EV unless this problem is solved, luckily I'm also too armgat for the time being, problem solved.

If you bought a fully serviced model younger than eight years old, you can get a free replacement if its capacity drops below a certain level prescribed in the warranty, typically 70% or 80%.
Just make sure it doesn't apply to just the original owner like is sometimes the case.

Something missing here is to use regenerative braking as much as possible. If you use your electric cars brakes you are driving it wrong.
