mixing memory problem online for help

I currently have 2 gigs of corsair pc8500, and I'm playing a stalker mod that chews up memory. I happen to have a spare stick of cruicial ballistix pc6400 and thinking putting it in to help ease the burden. Will this work out well or do you think it would cause more trouble?

It will slow down your corsair. But the more RAM available I feel is better. Will most probably be corrected in this though. Lol

It should work but all the RAM will then only operate at the slower setting. But heck, slower memory is still way faster than a hard drive so give it a go.

If both memory modules are the same size, it's then still supposed to be able to run in dual channel, which would give you about 15% better memory performance over single channel.

You are way better off using more memory at a slower speed (a couple of GB/s), than not enough, which would resort to using your hard drive (50-150MB/s for sequential stuff).
