If I have a cheap 1 gig stick of DDR-2 800, and I add another expensive quality stick of DDR-2 800 (1 gig ofc), what will the impact on my system be? Will having the faster more expensive stick be redundant due to the slower cheap stick? Obviously the extra ram will help, but what sort of effect will it have on my system? Thanks

Yes, the "faster" module will run at the slower module's timings.

It probably won't have any effect over getting another cheap stick.

By default, you will be limited to the worst SPD latency, afaik. If you're unsure of what the cheap stick you bought is. Then get CPUZ and check the SPD tab. You can always just change the timings in your BIOS. I'm ran cheap Transcend DDR2 800 rated at 5-5-5-18 at 4-4-4-12 without issues, and only loosened the timings a little when I added another 2 cheap sticks, uh Apacer I think.

It's better to get at least two of the same modules to run dual channel anyway. Even if they aren't sold as bin matched pairs.
