How the hell does one get into this?

I would love to jump in the ring and test myself against other fighters in a controlled enviroment. But no matter where I look I keep ending up with American recruiters and what not

Any ideas or tips? Any of you in the sport?

I saw an article about some gym in Illovo in Johanneburg where there is a Gym. But does one need to join an MMA specific Gym to be in a competitions? I thought MMA caters for all fighting styles

You cant go wrong with FightFit Militia which is probably the best MMA training camp in Jozi. But prepare to work hard!

What I like about that Militia place is they offer boxing too as from June 2010. Seems like a great all round place where the guys are serious about getting fit.

Fight Militia are EXTREME fitness freaks. You can't go wrong with them. There are also classes for your GF or wife & even kids if you have.
