Thinking of subbing to an MMO again( not guild wars 2)

looking for opinions on calculating to balance your MMO sub/card with your budget if you work full time ?
back in 2015 I made the mistake of subbing to an MMO per month based on usd/ zar exchange rate and when the rand crapped the cost of the sub went up and up. are time cards more cost effective ?

Depends on the game, back in 2004 when i still played WOW religiously i snagged up 6 3 month game time vouchers from incredible connection that was priced incorrectly so sometimes you can get good deals on game time sub cards where as most of the time month to month subs are more constant so yea

Ok, so i very basically crunched the numbers myself as of today 28 nov 2019 the ROE is 1 usd = 14,76 zar( +/-) that over/under your bank sets. This should not be treated as gospel and at best i think you will most likely pay upwards of the displayed amounts

1x 6 month sub @12.99 usd = 1150zar x 2( halves of 1 year) = 2300 zar

1x 1 month sub @ 15 usd = 221.34zar x 12 ( months ) = 2656 zar )
per my first post i mentioned if there is a spike in the ROE this price point is affected. e.g. changing of the finance ministers

1x 60 day time car @ 30 usd = 442.68zar x 6 card in 1 year = 2652 zar
Would make some sense to buy more than 2 @ once. Can anyone confirm if time cards have a shelf life of 1 calendar year ?

Guild wars 2 ONCE OFF is 1180.49 zar -> till the next expansion drops.
FF14 requires you purchase the expansions and the sub separately
Swtor you just sub.
I don't play wow so i left it out.
Not sure what other MMOs there are nor what their pricepoints are.

Given that we are staring down the barrel of a ratings downgrade and more SOE losses and other increases which will hurt our rand. MMOs no longer seem cost effective, would like to hear others thoughts.
