Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance has announced that Mmusi Maimane has been elected as the DA's Premier candidate for Gauteng for the 2014 national elections.

Mmusi Maimane was born and raised in Dobsonville, Soweto, near Johannesburg.

He is currently a Deputy Federal Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance and the DA's National Spokesperson.

Before entering politics, Mmusi lectured at the GIBS business institute and managed his own consultancy firm.

Mmusi made his entry into politics when he was nominated as the Democratic Alliance Mayoral Candidate in the City of Johannesburg during the 2011 local government elections. He was instrumental in increasing the DA's support levels from roughly 20% to 35% in Johannesburg during the 2011 elections.
Mmusi speaks six languages -English, Xhosa, Zulu, Sesotho, Setswana, Sephedi.

I hope he does well and if by some small miracle the DA takes Gauteng ... he does not let the province and the DA down, cause he is gonna have his work cut out for him thats for sure.

This is great news. If the DA can up there support in the townships by even a couple of percent it might make the race extremely close. I believe the DA were leading the last local elections in "whiter" areas in Gauteng but lost it as soon as the township votes came in.

On that note, how do I register to vote now that I'm older than 18. Also I'm studying in Cape Town but "live" in Joburg, which area do I register for.

You will register @ your local voting station to be put on the voters roll. There will be a map available I think as the time gets closer to the elections. I will have to register again since I have moved since my last vote. From Cyrildene to Sandton but different voting sations. When you move to Cape Town again then you will register there.

At least that is how it is supposed to work I think. This will only be my second time that I will be voting and 1st time in National elections. Fist time was local elections.
