Does anyone else have stand-alone MNet any more?

My parents do, and for the past few days they've noticed that the broadcast of the kids programs is messed up - you get picture for a second, then snow, then picture, then snow, and so on.

It happens almost exclusively during the kiddies stuff, which is odd; and the lights on the decoder flash on and off in synch with the snow.

Is it a transmission problem, or a decoder problem? Anyone else experienced this?

yeah we do, and yes we also have been expierancing a signal problem this last month or two. Weve taking our decoder to multichoice for repairs but they say theres nothing wrong with it so theres nothing we can do. One thing you can try to do which somtimes work for us is to unplug the decoder from the power wait few seconds then replug it and the signal would be back to normall. gud luck

I had a problem on Saturday for majority of the day it was flashing "1" I wasnt bothered as I was watching DSTV and thought the problem will rectify itself, until the afternoon came, I phoned the call center and they reset my signal and it came back to normal. As for the snow that could be purely a recpetion problem.

A flashing 1 means the decoder has lost its security code, MC can reset this.
I get the flashing 4 a lot which means a signal problem, the installation is perfect so I reckon the problem is on the transmission side (Tygerberg).

I have been experiencing transmission problems on the CSN (sports) canal especially after 19.30 in the evenings then the picture starts to roll, and it is quite strange it does this especially when they for instance show the specs of of a car in the motoring program and there is a blue background, also on the cycling program when they show upcoming cycling events with a blue background. when this happens i phone my surrounding neighbors who also confirms that they are experiencing the same problem.
Wrote e-mails a few times complaining and Mnet does not even bother to reply .

So we just got in touch with Mnet (eventually), and they say no, it's a problem with the decoder. But then how come the signal comes back perfectly spot on 11:00 every day, when the kids programs are finished?!

I really think they just don't care about old MNet any more, their attitude seems to be that if you're not on dstv it's your own problem.

Edit: oh, by flashing, I meant the orange and green lights, not the numeric code.

It could be local interference in your area.

When I was still living with my folks in a dead spot for terrestrial MNET reception, we sporadically got lines running across the screen and then the decoder would lose "synch" and show the undecoded picture. After removing the signal amplifier we had on the antenna, the interference was gone. Although the picture was more snowy, at least the decoder didn't lose synch.

Depending on your location and antenna, maybe try getting MNET from a different transmitter - maybe the alternate frequency wouldn't have interference on it, if it is that of course. Or if you have a signal amplifier, maybe you can remove it or adjust the gain to a lower setting.

There might be a problem with the deocder as well (but it can't be the whole problem since why it suddenly be fine at 11:00 in the morning?)

Apparently when they switch the power off, and then switch it on again, it goes to 0 for a few minutes before it goes to 7. Any idea what means? Or is it normal? (they never normally switch it off, so they don't remember what it normally does :)

Pathetic reception through Delta 900 Plus MNet decoder in Strand area

I've always had MNet, almost from switch-on and later also enrolled for the full DSTv package. However, when switching on the DSTv, I decided to keep the MNet Delta 900 Plus decoder separately as this gave me flexibility to watch MNet and another channel at the same time.

Later on, dualview became the fashion but I did not upgrade and still am using the combination of Delta 9000 MNet with Multichoice DSD 910 for the DSTv signal.

However, lately (meaning for more than a year now), the reception of MNet started acting erratic. First of all, it lost the sound all of a sudden about hourly, followed by loss of picture for about a minute, then it would "reset" itself and carry on normally till the next reset.

Lately, this "reset" has dissappeared but the sound has started hissing like a radio that's just on the edge of the station. Mostly (usually between 18h00 and 21h00) the programs in these time slots are almost inaudible, as the sound cuts out inbetween, making it impossible to watch.

I took the MNet decoder in to the agents and had it replaced, but to no avail - the problem stays. Upon phoning some installation companies here in the vicinity, I was told the MNet decoders are being interfered with by signals from the newer HD and PVR antennae that has lately being installed in the area. There is nothing to be done about the problem.

This means that Multichoice is forcing us "old dudes" who is not keeping up with technology, to fork out the cash for the newer gadgets like HDPVR etc?

Can someone please answer this question honestly - I have tried to get in touch with Multichoice but also to no avail.

Tks

DVB-H digital signal for the DStv mobile devices is lying on frequency 28. MNet from Tygerberg (I assume this is where your antenna is pointing) is on 30. This will cause interference because that digital signal is being transmitted at a relatively high signal level, from the Odeon tower. Ask one of the reputable installation companies to install a notch filter at the antenna. This should fix it.
