MNP, dropped calls and the Kjam

Hi all

I need some advice and feedback if possible. I am intending to port on the 10th (if it happens) my contract has been due for 3 months but I have been patiently waiting for MNP as I am not terribly happy with Vodacom due to the fact that I have at least 6-8 dropped calls per day without fail. I have tried many different phones and the problem still persists.
MTN was looking lucrative until I heard that Telkom was eyeing a 50% stake in them and I refuse to support those maggots more than I already HAVE to.

My question are as follows...

- Has anyone changed from Vodacom to any other provider and found that the quality of service (specifically dropped calls) has improved. Could you also please indicate which provider you moved to.

- I was considering the Imate Kjam as an upgrade option but was informed this morning by Vodacom that they are now discontinued. The Jasjar it appears has also been discontinued and there is no e.t.a for the Jasjam so I am in a bind as to which comparable handset to go for.
I am on a talk500 - any suggestions and feedback will be greatly appreciated

Don't believe everything you read. Telkom currently have 50% in Vodacom, their plans to buy 50% of MTN will never happens because it's only a rumour. Also if you look at MTN's operations throughout the continent, you would realise that they're about the same size as, if not bigger than Telkom. Basically you're already supporting Telkom by staying with Vodacom.

I can safely say that in 6 years with MTN I've never had a dropped call and always get a full signal. If you're talking about the call getting dropped after an hour then that's normal for all operators.

From what I have heard though, Telkom are considering the stake in MTN as they have an agreement with Vodafone that they will not offer services in countries that Vodafone or its subsidiaries offer services and therefore go into direct competition.

Selling up Vodacom and buying MTN will allow them to do exactly that.

That said though, my two biggest issues are which Service provider to port to and which phone to go for since the Kjam and Jasjar are now obsolete and the Jasjam is not available yet

Well I changed from MTN to Vodacom and haven't really had a problem with dropped calls on either, can't say I noticed a difference. Maybe the towers I'm usually on are just less congested. Only problems I've had is that I sometimes can't get through to Cell C numbers, but that was on both MTN and Voda.
