Mobile 3G Coverage in Rynfield, Benoni

Hello all

Just wondering if anyone in the Rynfield area makes use of Mobile Data (3G) and if so what network provider you are with and what sort of speeds you get?

Until recently I had an ADSL line which was great but cost a lot per month. Mother nature intervened about 2 months ago when lightening struck the phone pole and melted the cable and I am still waiting for Telkom to come and repair this. I wont be holding my breathe on this considering the closed my initial fault call saying it was resolved when I could clearly still see the melted cable outside my house

Any I digress. I am looking to get a 3G Router now instead and trying to decide which Service Provider to go with. I wanted to go with 8ta but after testing coverage and speed of 8ta and Vodacom have realized that their coverage in Rynfield is not that great. I came across an MTN tower about 2 or 3 blocks from my house and with speedtest.net tests on MTN get about 3 kbps upload and 1.5 kbps downloads. Not as fast as my 4mbps ADSL line or 7.2kbps the mobile is capable of

I have even borrowed a 3G router with external attenae to test if I can improve the signal, there was a slight improvement but not great, thinking I need to get the antennae on my roof above the trees

Anywayz in summary, if you stay in Rynfield, use mobile data coverage, who are you with, what speeds do you get and did you have to do anything extra get boost your signal

I stay in Uys street and have very decent Vodacom signal seeing as how the tower is at the Spar. Unfortunately Vodacom is too expensive so I use 8ta's internet promo 5(10gb+10gb) with a huawei b660 router + poynting windows mounted antenna. I have 4/5 bars usually and play online games with a pretty decent ping. In terms of speed I get 3Mbps+ down and +-1Mbps up. I have to note that I have a problem with them from time to time where I completely lose signal or only get 1 bar, but that's 8ta for you.

What do you connect at though. 3G, HSDPA or HSUDPA?

Would be interested to see what sort of download and upload speeds you get. Have you tested it on speedtest.net?

I connect at HSPA. Those speeds I gave you are the ones from speedtest.net. Untortunately I'm at work at the moment so can't paste the results for you. Hope I was of some assistance.
