I need around 1GB for a car system, is Afrihost still my best bet?

I can't go with 8ta due to coverage, so Vodacom and MTN network are my only options? I have 5GB data available on my iPad, which will serve as a hotspot most of the time.

Does anyone provide free mobile data yet? :D

Thats not bad - can't seem to find, can you top this up, or do you need to buy another sim?
Ya, you can top-up, but AFAIK, in-store only. So go to a Cell-C store and ask for a 3GB/365 voucher and then load it on your device with *102*<voucher code>#.
How is CellC's coverage compared to MTN/Vodacom?
Depends where you are going to be. They still have roaming on Vodacom's 2G network, so you have some kind of redundancy.

Right now, like today and a few days ago, MTN gives you 1Gb of data + 1Gb free.

I would go for MTN(Afrihost), affordable compared to other competitors out there that charge you premium for data which is overpriced.

If you on vacation you will have MTN service unlike CELL C data which will probably roam on Vodacom network if you visiting a small town or on a camping trip.

Go for the best package that offers value for money.

If you going to use mobile data as your primary internet connection(no adsl).

Then look at your options available.

Broadband Solution

Hello :)

So our MTN Uncapped 3G contact is ended this month :( :(

We use roughly 10gb per month as per usage stats.

We are on a very tight budget and wonder if anyone has a connectivity solution they could suggest?

Yea i have full on faith in them - so they are high on the list.

Telkoms's 10 + 10 for R300 a month is great if you have reception

How does Afrihost 3G compare to Telkom mobile? How is Afrihost's coverage and speed?

I've used Telkom mobile and were very happy with them, just curious if I should try someone else.

Voda or Cell C cheapest prepaid data?

I've managed to relocate to a black hole in the universe that doesn't have 3G MTN coverage, so my Afrihost mobile data connection is too slow to be usable.

I've gone through all the options, seems I'll have to use Vodacom or Cell C - at least I get a 3G signal, albeit a little shaky.

So who has the best data deal out of the two? As far as I can make out neither operator has data costs anywhere near Afrihost, specifically on a month-to-month prepaid basis. So for 3GB it looks like the going rate is R299. Any tips, please?

A Vodacom 12 month contract is R169pm, is it not ?

Prepaid is more.

You can get a Vodacom prepaid 2GB per month for 12 months for R1599.

Thanks Jola

I'm looking at month-to-month prepaid, particularly because data prices are likely to fall so I don't want to be caught in a contract when the prices drop. Similarly the prepaid 24GB, prices are likely todrop and leave me annoyed that I paid so much for data that I've yet to use. Problem is I've been spoiled by Afrihost's pricing...

Cell C has the 200GB for R1799 of which 150GB is midnight data. That leaves you with 4GB anytime data per month. Question you need to ask is will data drop to a point that it's cheaper than this and enough to justify paying more in the mean time?
