It's quite refreshing to be using a Microsoft product and to find myself in a fringe minority. But then I've never really liked herds. There's something mildly delicious about being the only guy in town who has a WP phone. ;)

I had the samsung omnia 7, still regret selling it grrrr.

Not to sure what to make of this stats, must I assume that Chrome is Part of Android Webkit? Their share must be higher. They are the default browser on the recent release JB and I have been using them since launch.

Do you realize you're a hipster? :D

The difference between cellular usage and all network usage is interesting.

Android browser and Opera should really be added. The crappyness is strong in the stock browser - at least the older ones that I have used.

Our whole company (40+ individuals) is moving to WP8 and waiting for Surface Tablets to replace our Notebooks. You would be surprised how popular the Win8 devices are in the financial industry.

Shame ... Surface Tablets?! Aren't you guys reading tech news articles? The Surface is a dead duck. I'm not sure how one will measure its popularity in the financial industry as that is such a wide spectrum of companies. Do you have stats that prove this popularity? Would be interesting to see this as everything I read says "stay far away".

The Surface is a dead duck.
Maybe the RT version - at least for PC users like us. My mom loves her RT, and doesn't have a clue about Desktop.

The Pro version is another beast entirely. They can't make 'em fast enough. Which is why Surface is not yet available in most major markets. Everyone agrees the quality is beeoootiful (other than iFans, of course, which tend to dominate the media).

I would agree with this if I were looking for a laptop replacement. As a tablet competitor though, I would not want an x86 device.

The main issues for me would be worse battery life than competing ARM tablets (such as iOS or Android devices)
as well as a lack of apps designed for touch.
Yes I'm aware there are a lot of x86 apps, but how many are designed with touch in mind?

This could change over time, but at present, it sucks.

Photoshop is a good example of why MS is getting it wrong. Photoshop Touch is not the same as the full version of Photoshop running on a computer/laptop with proper keyboard and mouse. One can never do on the touch version what one can on a normal version using a mouse. Touch just doesn't work. No designer will ever take the light touch version serious. And to put the full version on a touch screen x86 tablet is not going to work either. And just forget about using Photoshop like a gorilla on a large vertical LCD or LED screen.

There are many similar examples.

MS should have kept Windows the way it was (a.k.a Desktop) and handled tablets and phones with a different version that has made for touch lightweight apps ... RT and WP.

That is why an app costs $2 and the real thing $500.

The whole MS landscape is a mess now.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. (But we're getting off topic.)

Let's not forget that with Win8 Pro you don't lose anything you already have with Win7/Desktop (except maybe the Start orb, and a boot straight into Desktop, soon restored for those who want an older UI). All the Win32 apps you traditionally use still run just fine. So keep on using Photoshop as you always have - it would be silly to move to the Touch version, which is not touted by anyone as a replacement for the full Win32 version, btw.

Touch devices are for now and the foreseeable future really aimed at info consumption rather than production and manipulation. MSFT has to make a start somewhere, because devices are a big part of anyone's future.

As the migration of iPads and 'droid fondleslabs into the office/work environment shows, not everyone needs only a laptop/desktop all the time ... there's room for both, and millions of people can benefit from having both a notebook/desktop PC and a fondleslab.

Win8 Pro supports various platforms ... notebooks and laptops for Win32/Desktop users who want portability, desktop PCs for those who work at a fixed workstation, and tablets in various configurations for those who want a bit of both.

It's really not such a "mess" at all. Nor is it a big disruption, chaos, confusion, or disaster, in my view. In fact, it's all coming together rather nicely.

We importing the PRO. We obviously move in different circles. :)

Pro version makes more sense. It sounded like you guys were going for Windows RT Surface tablets which is not selling at all.

All the persons I know moving in financial circles are into iPads. They see Android as too geeky and not a fashionable accessory to be seen with.

In my geek circles Android rules ... and MS tablets are not considered an option at all.

To each his/her own.

I just hope my Windows becomes less touchy with 8.1 as a touch screen computer is not on my wish list. Finger painting is not the same as fine detailed design.

I have a WP8, Android, Symbian^3 devices. Android I never use the native browser, WP8 I use the IE browser, Symbian same story as Android. Blackberry OS also never used the native browser.
