Hello,

Does anyone here own one of those little ball devices that one plugs into your cellphone?

I am looking for small and compact speakers to play music through so that I don't have to wear my headphones all the time.

Can anybody please advise, are they worth getting?

Thank you

I have an older one. Pretty good sound for a little speaker like that. If you buy two you can connect them together for stereo ;) You can just keep adding them together until you have like 6 of them hooked up...if you really wanted to.
Also acts as an mp3 player (it has a memory card slot that reads the music and can then output through a speaker jack into headphones)...if that's what you wanted.

In fact the sound is so good, that I plug it into my laptop to use as an external speaker.
You can't go wrong with those.

Edit: We're talking about the shoX speakers here :D

Something like this?

Just be aware there are two very distinctive types of plug-in speakers:
* passive (i.e. non-powered) which are generally very small and tinny and with very little 'oomph', or
* active (powered, usually by a couple of AA batteries) which can be fairly high-quality and with reasonable volume.

Unless size is an issue, you will generally be happy with active (powered) speakers because of the better audio quality and volume.

Out of interest, have you listened to a (pair of) shoX? You charge it via a usb port, so there are no batteries to change -per se. Do yourself a favor -IF you haven't checked out them shoX - go have a look-see. They have more than enough, "oomf"-wise and the bass coming from that little thing is, indeed, something to behold.

shoX speakers have amazing good sound for such a small size. You get different sizes, the bigger one imo is the best value as it produces the deepest bass and clearest midrange. Their batteries also last quite long.

I am also very interested in purchasing two for use at work and they need to be loud enough to drown out the machinery noise.
