I've started looking into mobile first responsive designs as I tend to view most sites on my mobile phone and really do avoid those that I can't. I've decided to redo the wifes business site as a mobile 1st and its been great fun.

Last time I looked into this was end of last year when I was still working for a digital agency but we had some issues going into that direction. Our lead CSS styler and graphic designers where both not comfortable with the move and we put it on hold. Now with all the resources available the sudden push of new frameworks, helpers and quality articles, its seems a good time to take this into consideration when doing sites.

I've followed the gov.uk development from concept, to beta to live and its interesting how much has changed from concept to actual implementation. I like the larger fonts, less copywriting and clean look.

Anybody else focusing on this field at the moment?

Oh, and I'm a PHP developer with a primary focus on server side code and in-house applications (eg callcenters)

hey, I primarily work in frontend stuff.
Very exciting time to be in this field. Responsive layouts have changed the game indeed!
Often I am left to implement designs which were not created with a 'mobile first' mind set.

I think its how responsive a site should be is an important question. Most frameworks have three 'snapping points'. Which often fall short of say - a site responding from a landscape tablet/mobile viewport to a portrait one.
Throw retina display, the new nexus viewports and mobile browsers into the mix and you have quite a large device pool to accommodate for.
It can be tricky and frustrating but I love it. thank god for jquery
