So far we have tried

MXIT - terrible interface (constant need to change to predictive text every time you want to type a message)

GoTalkMobile (GTalk for cell phones) - frequent disconnects on my K810 - does not even load on a D820.

Skype and Windows Live Messenger/MSN only work on Windows Mobile phones.

Any ideas guys??

Is MXIT really all there is?

What about Fring? I hear it is good. Will it work on a D820? Is it free??

Any ideas much appreciated.
:)

Ok so it seems to work on my K810 and my gf's D820.

Are the smss sent from there really free?

We have added eachother as contacts, both mig and using cell numbers. But we still cannot see eachother as online....:confused:

Never tried sensing SMSes off Mig.

Have you both got MSN? That will definitely work. :)

Nooit.

I enter the MSN details and then choose to sign in, and it says signing in, and then it just bails me back to the main menu. Then when i try to add an MSN contact it says that I am not connected to MSN!

Also, I think the main issue is with the D820 itself - the fact that it requires you to tap the * button repeatedly to change to T9 when in a chat program (not when typing an sms- there it remembers) seems to be particular to the phone and not the program...
