Mobile payment system pricing and interoperability

everything on this planet is a 'walled garden' approach. its the microsoft way of thinking. in the linux way of thinking, there would only be one payment system, running one OS, on every mobile phone on this planet. The OS will be free, and bettered and secured by the masses.

A perfect world. :)

Compared to our bank charges the fees seem quite low, even if one sends money to an unregistered user.

Such a brilliant idea to help uplift the poor and now the greedy services providers try and bleed the poor dry. I would offer the service for free for on net customers and only charge a little fee for off net customers.

Heavens! Sounds like a no choice way of thinking to me. What happens if you don't like the lowest common denominator OS developed by the masses? This sounds a little totalitarian to me and I don't think that is the intention of Linux at all.

I think what is mean't by one OS - aka a universal OS is, linux being the core, as it is now, you still get your plethora of flavours, and linux is much more modular then Windows or Apple, think android, it's core linux, yet Samsung, HTC, LG, etc, have their own customisations, giving it the feel own it's own OS to the less informed. Technically Apple OS is also linux, but they commercialised it, so it's not very popular with OSS guys.

Linux can never be totalitarian as you put it, as it's free, as in beer, or STD's ;) Sure, companies can charge for their improvements and customisations, such as HTC Sense, or Samsung Touchwiz, but to reiterate, the core, linux, is free to modify, change, or spread.
