I was hoping to get my mom and dad a pressie for Xmas. As they are retired and move around a bit every so often, I was thinking in lines of mobile broadband in order to keep them connected as they do have ADSL at home.

I have a friend who is going back to SA this week, so I can hopefully send the pressie with him. My first option was to see if I cant find the device I am looking for in SA so that they dont have any issues with support.

Its one of those mobile 3G pocket WiFi jobbies.
The one you can just leave in your pocket or in your handbag (if you are a woman of course) and then you can connect any of your mobile devices to it via WiFi.

Like the two in the pictures below. I just dont know if the Ozzie ones will work in SA though...

They are available in SA.

Huawei E5832/E585/E585
R210 MiFi router (that's not the price)
Option Globesurfer X.1 Wireless Cellular Router

In Oz they use 850MHz and 2100MHZ, and the former does not work in SA.

Most of the ISPs will work on 2100MHZ, but Cell C 900MHZ will not work.
