My parents in-law have been billed for an unknown period for a "MobiX Treffers/VIAME" subscription service. Only thing is - they have never subscribed to anything. For one I know they don't know how to connect to the internet and they also say they have never sent any sms's or replied on any.

They have since stopped the service at a Vodacom branch, but I would like to try and get their money back or have these sharks up for fraught or both. Any ideas...?

boggom, sounds like an Afrikaans music subscription. I work for a WASP and I find that many consumers unknowingly subscribe via WAP and/or SMS. If their number is new then it could be a recycled SIM, but if it is an existing number then you should follow up with WASPA.

Vodacom should also be able to supply you with the WASP that billed them. You can contact them directly to ask for proof of opt-in.

A quick google brings up:

http://test.31316.mobi/content/music/treffers?al=&pg=2

Call centre: 086 111 1106

Email: [email protected]

* This is a WAP site. There is a chance that someone else used their phone to browse the WAP site and initiate a subscription.

Also www.smscode.co.za gives you:

http://www.smscode.co.za/index.cfm?fuseAction=search.home&sms=31316

Name: ViaMedia (Pty) Ltd
VAS Rate: Standard
Telephone: 0861 11 11 06

Solved

Thanks for the effort cbrunsdonza. I emailed them and within an hour (imagine that) they mailed me back proof of subscription. My mother in law then 'remembered' entering a competition on the tv where you should sms the answer to some number. Last night she denied having sent any messages or replying to any....

Anyhow they stopped the service on receiving my email.

All's well that ends well I suppose...?
