I have two 800MHz 1 gig DDR2 memory modules on this board. When i boot XP pro 32bit it shows 667MHz, and it looks to me there is no chance to go for 1066 when looking at the specs below.
Anyone to help me on this please?

The motherboard incorporates the G31 Northbridge (NB) and ICH7 Southbridge
(SB) chipsets. The Northbridge supports a Front Side Bus (FSB) frequency of 1333/
1066/800 MHz using a scalable FSB Vcc_CPU. The memory controller supports
DDR2 memory DIMM frequencies of 800/667
. It supports two DDR2 sockets with
up to maximum memory of 4 GB. DDR2 Maximum memory bandwidth of 12.8 GB/
s in dual-channel symmetric mode assuming DDR2 800 MHz. High resolution graph-ics via one PCI Express slot, intended for Graphics Interface, is fully compliant to
the PCI Express Base Specification revision 1.1

What CPU do you have, and exactly what motherboard do you have?

It is possible that your CPU would limit the FSB speed, and hence also the RAM speed. I haven't seen this in a long while though, so I might be wrong about it.

The speed difference that you'll get by going from 667MHz to 800MHz would be minimal in any case.

Thx it's a ECS G31T-M7 Intel Socket LGA775 Motherboard (G31T-M7) and a celeron E3300 2.5

Your CPU runs at 800MHz and your motherboard supports DDR2 800MHz, so I really have no idea why it would run at 667MHz.

What did you use to check the RAM speed? CPU-z? Just remember that under the Memory tab in CPU-z, it will display the RAM speed as 400MHz when it is in fact running at 800MHz. DDR stands for Double Data Rate, which is why the value in CPU-z will be half of what your RAM is actually running at.

The SPD tap of CPU-z should be able to tell you the speeds at which the RAM can run, without overclocking it.

Yes you're right pada it shows PC2-6400 (400MHz) with CPU-z on the SPD tap.
Thx for the help.

Cellbell, in the SPD tab it only shows the maximum speed/bandwidth, where as in the Memory tab it will show the actual speed.

OK so this is why it's 667 on the bootscreen, cos on the mem tab it shows 332.5?

Make sure that the both memory modules show PC2-6400 (400MHz) in the SPD tab - there is a Slot #1 drop down listbox.

If both show 400MHz, then it is probably just a BIOS setting such as a memory multiplier.

Thx guys, the bios setting was on auto & i changed it to 800MHz.
Memory tab (CPUz) now on 399.0 MHz & on bootscr 800MHz.
