Hi guys,

I'm wondering if iBurst is aware of how much business is waiting for them in the Modderfontein/Longmeadow area? There's no ADSL, there's no Sentech, there's no iBurst, guys resort to using 3G for internet needs.

Is there a planned tower for the area if you go to their maps and click "show planned coverage"?

If not it might still be a long wait, maby you shuld inform them of this with an email, might not get noticed here. Probably wont get noticed on a email either :p

Koffiejunkie, that's not entirely accurate. I know of an iBurster within Longmeadow Business Park (East) and a little further Southwards you could establish a (so-so) MyWireless connection to Hurleyvale (base station number 50) if you have sufficient height. (And if you could be bothered!)

The iBurster I know has an antenna facing in a South-Westerly direction.

As long as your office block is not the lowest of the low (in height above sea level, that is!) you have a sporting chance with iBurst.

The part about the lack of ADSL I believe wholeheartedly and without reservation.

Hi D,

none of our clients get any iBurst reception there. Maybe the person you know is just lucky. At some of our clients in that area I lose cellphone reception....

Lucky in the sense that he went about it in a way that had promise of a solution - yes.

Lucky in the sense that his offices are better situated than his neighbour - no, not necessarily. He is situated a stones throw from the East end of Jersey Drive - not the highest location in that area. He was just desperate enough to pursue extreme possibilities.

Currently Modderfontein/Longmeadow is an area that dictates that one must go to extremes to set up - or better - RF links there.

My guess is that most would-be iBursters in that area, probably in ignorance, perhaps ill-advised or perhaps unwilling to make the effort/investment, are unaware that ANTENNA + HEIGHT = POSSIBILITY.

If an ANTENNA doesn't quite cut it (and there are so few current antenna options for iBursters) the total gain that the antenna renders can be "increased" by eliminating some of the loss (read: eliminating most of the antenna cable) and utilising PoE technology instead. In the height arena, PoE applications also leave greater flexibility.

If HEIGHT doesn't cut it there is probably only one thing to do: Wait for deployment of a nearer base station.

But the desperate don't want to resign themselves to waiting, do they? (So glad the waiting for the weekend is over!) :)

I agree. But most clients are worried taht ANTENNA + HIGHT + LIGHTNING = DISASTER.

Then there's the issue of "penny wise, pound foolish"

If you take the N1 to Jo'burg, go left at the interchange onto the N3, one or two offramps after Marlboro, go left. The business park is there.
