Modding Firefox

How do I mod Firefox so that it can save videos (like trailers)?
I know that you just install a plugin, but the last time I tried that, it took long to set up and messed my Firefox up completely.
Any suggestions?

I am using flashgot (extension) to download online videos. Painless and simple to use.

After you installed flashgot, when your webpage contains video (flv.etc) a flashing film icon will appear at the bottom right corner and you click to specify where you want to save the file.

You can also use DownloadHelper, which saves videos from streaming sites, such as YouTube and many others.
