A recent break in saw a couple of cameras end up in the wrong hands.

For insurance purposes I'll need to replace but the models are not current models.

What would the equivalent be for the:

Canon EOS 300 - this is a film SLR; and
Canon EOS 10D - the thing about this beauty is the magnesium alloy body.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think canon makes film cameras anymore, do they? You may still be able to get a Canon EOS-1v somewhere though.

IIRC the 10D was a prosumer body so today's equivalent would probably be the 70D.

You are probably right on finding a film camera - but they still exist :)

At the time of the 10D the flagship was the 1D and I think that Canon had the 10 and a 30 that were a step down. (Basically the more zeros that a Canon has, the more entry level it is.) The 10 and 30 were of the same specification but the difference was the number of frames that could be captured in a burst.

Canon then realigned the model numbering system so a direct comparison isn't exactly possible but I think that you're probably right on it being closer to a 70 than a 7 in relative terms.

Thanks
