dude all i can say is stay away from D-link. Its crap

The Billion 5102S is a very nice and affordable modem/router - you won't go wrong there.

No need for a crossover cable

I have used dlink for years now, and they have the most stable cross networking/low price products.

I recommend it to anyone, and the poor can even afford it.

@ clipse

Clipse? Any experience on DG834GT. I gave back the DG834G due to some unstableness and took the former. The results look better but sometimes it seems the unit doze off, get page not available, then I run my e-mail update check and then everything is ok again. That is with/without FreeVPN.
I also get errors falures in router mode on Broadband line quality testing but on microcomm and FreeVpn with DG834X there errors is gone

See DG834X router mode

See DG834X FreeVPN or (Microcomm is similar in plain router mode)

Ive never had bad batches, its rather strange. No dlink router has ever frozed, that I worked with.

IVe used the DG834G, no problems whatsoever.

Thanks
Maybe start checking lines for noise ???? who the hell knows. We deal with Telkom so nothing is as it should or seems to be.

have been using a netgear DG834GT for 4 months now, first 2 months, i have experienced a lot of trouble, the trouble was from the router, the netgear support and duxbury south africa, all of them gave me trouble. i finally got it swapped out through my supplier to the modem router that comes stock with V1.01.28 firmware and i have at yet not experienced no trouble, my router has been on for a mnth and a half now neva switched it off, and its still running smoothly. its in fact a really cool modem.
so if you are going to get a netgear DG834GT make sure it comes stock with V1.01.28 firmware.

I've had the 5102S for a day and so far so good. I could have probabl got the SM since I'm using ipcop, but just in case the machine dies
I'll at least have the router.

Hi

We usually use Linksys gear which we find works like a dream, is stable and not bad from a price point of view. If you are looking for Linksys equipment, feel free to contact us as we can supply it if required. www.justconnect.co.za

rather buy 1 of telkoms marconi routers:)

I gotta agree with Connection, I use a Linksys WRT54g router with a ADSL2MUE modem, and the setup is completely Rock-Solid. Cost of both items was around R1000, and the modem is upgradable to ADSL2+ (24mbps).
The router is also basically a mini Linux box, with a variety of custom firmwares available. With the router & modem downstairs, my signal upstairs and outdoors never drops more than 1 bar, "Very Good", and connection is stable and fast.
Extremely happy with my setup. :)
