<br />Thanks ProAsm - this proves to the consistent whingers and people embarking upon bizzare "this is war" campaigns that Sentech are at least trying to get things right.

hehehe, actually matt it proves the opposite. If Sentech, in an official capacity, had anything to do with this they would be the ones posting on here and assisting us. The fact that ProASM posted it is, as always, greatly appreciated but as I'm sure he'll tell ALL - his postings here are NOT sanctioned by Sentech (or has that status changed Pro ?)

Thanks again for the file Pro...

Poor people who don't know about this forum.

I am too scared to reset my modem as it will probably mean searching for a signal again, some sinful blabber, a trip to the roof and back and my girlfriend getting annoyed with me for forcing her to shout ""82, 82, 82, 82, 82, 12" - can I go now" Thank God there is no Tower 69 here - the folks next door would have eyed me even weirder :-)

-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;-&lt;

...and Gandalf stared into the distance with a faraway look of gold...

I downgraded. Here's the ping results to 196.4.160.2 before and after:

Before (5.0.1.40y)
--- 196.4.160.2 ping statistics ---
100 packets transmitted, 94 packets received, 6% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 89.4/200.3/1919.5 ms

After (4.2.1.8)
--- 196.4.160.2 ping statistics ---
100 packets transmitted, 95 packets received, 5% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 83.7/236.7/1422.0 ms

So it looks like the PL thing is the same, and better than 4.2.1.1 (or whatever was running on the modem originally)

Could you (ProAsm) explain why they would use 6 nodes in UK? Is this due to the higher subscriber density? Surely there are areas here where it would be a good idea if so..

HEART ATTACK !

So I go away - downgrade my modem... and cannot connect ... panic !

But NO --- It's more of Sentech's SCHEDULED (BS) maintenance - at least the modem is not a complete doorstop.

What I find truly sad is that my f*cked telkom line and crapy modem actually lets me load these pages faster than via Mywireless ... oh joy.

And to "Charles"? At the Helpdesk - who IS a Mywireless & MyADSL user - but didn't want to give his nickname ;-)... just too bad that I've not gained infamy higher up the Sentech chain than the call centre ;-)

Well at the end of the day (if you got lottsa bucks) 6 nodes is better than 3.
With 3 nodes you need very wide angle horizontal beamwidth but you sacrifice the vertical beamwidth but out here where its very hilly in most places this works better.
With 6 nodes you can go for much narrower beamwidths and much great vertical beamwidths.
The downside of 6 nodes is you loose antenna gain but then when you gotts lotsa bucks you put up more Towers that are closer together - also you need licence out here for 6 frequencies [:)]

Ok, So I upgraded the modem, reset it, and then the red light just looked back at me, so I talked to the modem nicely and oh look, it started to look for a signal, that was at 22:30............. It was still looking this morning when I left for work. Any ideas?

Rhino, try doing a power re-set.
Then try BOP (to make sure it's not a Mal Park issue)

If you're still having problems - email me.

Power reset? Take off back thingie and reset?
Im @ work in Springfield Park. so I will try the Sea Cow lake tower...

Try getting a program to access the modem like Mysignal's test section.I had the same issue it didn't look for a tower till I queried the modem with the tester.

OK... I still would do one more thing.
Try downloading the ver 5 firmware and re-test. Lets see if this
is a hardware issue or not??

Still nothing on ver 5. I think I need to go right back...

Rhino. The first modem that I got had firmware 4.2.1.2. With that version (and probably previous versions), when you powered on the modem using the power supply it automatically switched itself on completely. (I actually though this was rather a nice feature because in an unattended setup if the power went off, then the modem would switch itself on properly when the power was restored.)

When I got my modem replaced because of a faulty Ethernet port, the new one had firmware 4.2.1.6. This version acted differently at power on - it comes on, flashes all the leds as a test, and then goes to sleep with only the red led on. You have to then press the button to switch it fully on. I have also found that you have to hold the button in for about two seconds before it reacts (i.e. seems sluggish to switch on, which is a bit disconcerting). Version 4.2.1.8 and version 5.x.x.x may behave the same.

I can't think of any reason why they would change the power on behavior, the old way was much more practical.

I opened the sentech dialer whihke it stared loking and then it immediately found the signal
Try this

Else ;
Switch the modems power cable off and press the black button to switch it off compleatly.

Leave it for a minute or so, then reconnect the power

Are you shure the modem is in the right place to see signal ?

Have you tried the reset on the back ?

Use Mysignal and see if it is looking at any tower numbers
