Hi, I just have a quick yes/no question for Rodent...

I was on the phone to the support desk, after experiencing yet another problem with mywireless, and the guy told me to reset my modem to clear the log files.

Are there actually log files that would be cleared by a reset?

I think nicroets may be able to answer this one better. The modem, or RAS leaves a pretty chatty logfile somewhere, which is how Nic's transponder figures out which tower you are connected to. I'm not sure of the exact location of this thing.

I doubt though, that a modem reset will clear the file.

Well, this idiot Charles Van Reenen (yes, I am naming and shaming now), at the helpdesk, told me that it would affect my ability to connect, and that I needed to reset. I'm getting my facts straight before exploding at them.

Thanks.

Hey ;-) ... Decompilers and the ECT act don't speak the same language ;-) grinz

The problem I am having: I use mywireless for months. Not many problems, the odd slow speed or connection drop when the wind blows. Absolutely nothing changes about the modem, it's position, etc, so naturally because mywireless is the pinnacle of excellent products, it suddenly decides to stop working ("remote computer did not respond"). SO now I set the system to continuously dial at 3 second intervals until it connects.

Of course, thanks the the helpdesk that is well staffed by capable, knowledgable people, my problem was not fixed or even helped by their high degree of competence.

Have you tried mysignal, or the Sentech dialler, to see whether you are attempting connection to the same tower you used to be seeing, maybe another tower sprung up in a surrounding area, with its panels aimed too high, hence you're modem is trying it, and not your previous tower?

Yes, the modem is trying to connect to the exact same tower... 82 Radiokop/Honeydew.

It seems okay now.

What does the sentech dialer give as the reason for not conecting

This is the only reason I keep the sentech dialer, It tells you what the problem is after it tries to dial

Donovan - any chance you are in range of the new Aasvoelkop tower that happened to get turned on yesterday ?
