I felt this could interest many people so I made it a new topic.

If you were to compare it with a normal analog transmitter (FM, RadioPhone) which transmits on a single carrier then the modem's output power is in the region of 1 Watt.
However these modems are broadband digital devices so it transmits its whole spectrum (10 Mhz) all at the same time thus the output power is 250 milliwatts.
If you now have a look at any of the towers you will see 2 long narrow panel antennas.
One transmits and receives while the other only receives.
Being a digital signal the received signals are added from the 2 antennas, something you cannot do with an analog signal.
Its for this reason the modem can transmit such a great distance.
