Hi All,

It has been a very long time since i have been here and i hope you all are well.

I would like to know if you guys could please share some of your thoughts with me.

I am looking at replacing my duo plus 300wr modem with something a bit better as i will be getting 10mbps as of today.

I am a complete noob when it comes to these things and was wondering if the telkom modems that they sell instore are any good or should i be looking at something like a linksys?

Any advice would be appreciated.

what's your Budget , what are your needs? Is the Duo plus not capable of of connecting at 10Mbps?

With the routers they all pretty much the same, unless you looking at the advanced features - however i will advise to keep away from the telkom d-link 2750U - ADSL wise its fine, just found the wifi horrible.

my budget is anything up to R1000.

The duo plus has just been around for a while and did take one or two knocks over the years so just looking at a new one. I was looking at the N300 Wireless ADSL2 Modem from Telkom.

No personal experience with that one, a friend has that one she isnt a pro or anything and she managed to set it up, she hasn't had any problems.

Im sure it would be cheaper some where else (rather then dirct with Telkom)

Looks like its over 1k on pricecheck and at the telkom store its R839.

was also looking at linksys x1000 from Makro

I'm not advertising for Takealot, but just checked their router prices aren't Bad: the netgear is slightly cheaper R832 :D

http://www.takealot.com/computers/adsl-routers-10139?pagesize=100&order=price&direction=asc

you can score a decent router and be way under your budget and if you can score a Cosmo with a Voucher you can save an extra 100 bucks (70 if you take the price of the Cosmo)

Thanks for the tips bud i really appreciate it

no problem.
Check the reviews before you buy, My opinion I've heard good thinks about Tp-link , Netgear and D-link is good (except the 2750 as i mentioned)
Billion, Asus and Trendnet are not Bad - Linksys is good but they sometimes can be flaky. (see the x1000 is R790 slightly less then Makro)

Where can i find TP-Link? will incredible connection have some of these modems? I live out side of Johannesburg so my options for high quality tech stores is limited.

Koppies and Vanderbijlpark = same thing :)

The only reason i would like to to in store is because i would like to handle this before the long weekend and things.

Kinda like those Tk-Link Modems

have fun shopping - just compare prices first Matrix might probably be cheaper than Incredible and Makro, and i'm sure your Dorpie has one :D
