Modem Router AC spec and ISP speed relationship

Hello,

I have just purchased an TP Link AC1200 Archer VR400 Modem Router. For very little more, I could have opted for the AC1600 option. However my incoming ISP speed is only 10Mbs (Telkom ADSL). So am I right to think that this 'upgrade would not really have any tangible impact in my case? My internet is used mostly for Netflix, Kids gaming PC's (1 PC on LAN and two on Wi-Fi) and occasional PS4 gaming.

Box still sealed, not too late to do a swap I think, but only if it makes sense.

Firstly you need the clients to actually support the same standard....which is generally unlikely unless you specifically shelled out for it.

Further to this unless you are copying a lot of huge files (not streaming) in home you are unlikely to even see a major benefit with AC over N, never mind different standards of AC.

So no, not really worth it.

Thanks SauRoNZA. I do have a fairly new high end 4K Samsung Smart TV.... but this is connected by LAN cable to the modem/router, not wireless. Same with the PS4 Pro. So then i guess what you are saying is that if the PC's don't have wireless 802ac standard (they use USB dongles), makes little difference.

I use a network switch for all my LAN devices 1Gbps, I can plex to all my devices with no buffer and also in 4K to my Samsung 4K TV and Full HD to the PS3.

For Wifi I use my TP Link Archer D50( yes its an old model) and has 5Ghz which I can stream to my phones and tablet with zero buffer. It a very cheap set up. Internet is 4mbps Telkom ADSL which runs at 400kbps at peak time, have my ONT intstalled if only my fiber ISP would activate my profile still awaiting them after 3 weeks.
